Lodging

This Okefenokee and black water River pastime package also features one of our Deluxe Cabin accommodations, located here at the entrance to the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and a mile from the St Marys river.

You will be staying in one of our comfortable, clean, cozy and convenient Cabins while doing your private package tours. It sure makes things so much easier, nicer & better for everyone especially you, to be right here. Enjoy being in the country and the fine natural surroundings, not to mention some great bird watching found here on our 12 acre property.

Take a break from TV (you might need it) although the Cabins have high speed internet WIFI reception and decent cell phone service here. Cabins are Non Smoking. A butt-can and ashtray can be provided for outside only smokers.

Our Cabins are Clean! & Nice! & Private! & Fun! And Reasonable! Charming plus Romantic for couples! You could pay allot more to stay at a B&B in town but it would not be cleaner or nicer, just fancier furniture (ours is simple but comfortable).

A Deluxe Cabin can sleep 4 (but for normal to large size folks, the most comfortable situation is for 2 and no more than 3 adults) with bunk beds and 1 double bed. The cozy one room cabin is air conditioned, heated, has its private bathroom, shower, toilet, sink, a small refrig, microwave, coffee pot, tables, chairs and a screened porch. All the bedding, towels etc. are provided (cabin is non-smoking and candles or cooking with any type of open flame is not allowed in the cabin, see Deluxe cabin page for details. A picnic table for outdoor cooking (if you bring or rent a stove) and eating on is next to the cabin. A grill and fire ring can be made available for use, certain restrictions apply see the fire info on cabin rental page. Local grocery stores have food & beverages.

All Paddle Package # 3 Participants must have:

#1 At least someone participating possesses a functional (in this area) cell phone that you will take along with you on the river.

#2 Everyone has paddling experience with their chosen boat types and some canoe or kayak flat water wilderness paddling knowledge (see special info below) for participation in this package.

This private guided Okefenokee paddle is our most popular paddle tour. It is a half day guided kayak or canoe Okefenokee Swamp Tour that includes up to 3 1/2 hours on the water and it’s approximately 5-8 miles of no current paddling in the swamp.

Enjoy the great Okefenokee up close and personal the way it should be in a Kayak or Canoe. We will be gliding under moss draped Cypress trees and surrounded by Ty Ty and Fetter bush, then venturing out onto Chesser Prairie and the Okefenokee’s grand expanse of low vegetation not to mention the assortments of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects we’ll share these waters with. Relax and have fun, you can feel the stresses of modern living leaving your body, like letting the air out of a tire.

On your other day you’ll have the later morning river trip. It is an easily self guided 2 to 6 hour paddle on the spectacularly gorgeous, gentle and forgiving St. Marys River. It is the river which forms a border between Florida and Georgia flowing from the Okefenokee Swamp to its destination the Atlantic Ocean.

You will glide along the white sandy banks of Florida to your right and Georgia on your left, enjoy the Flora and Fauna of this pristine stretch of classic black water river, which was born in the Okefenokee Swamp. You may want to pack a blanket to sit on and have a picnic lunch. The river has wonderful white sandbars and river bank beaches to relax on, or even take a swim. You must have a cell phone and adequate paddling skills to participate in this self guided paddle.

The river is a self guided trip and can be subject to cancellation or substitution during rare times of flood conditions, please check with us for weather updates.

This paddle pastime package includes: Canoes or Kayaks, Paddles, PFDs, River shuttling, Guiding for the Okefenokee part with refuge entrance fees included for that guided morning only.

Not provided; hats, sunscreen, bug repellent, sunglasses, or food & drinks on the water, bring it along for yourself or do without. Also not provided: entrance fee for Okefenokee wildlife refuge other than on the one guided morning.

We run a tight schedule and really need you to respect departure and pick up times. Please be punctual, otherwise it lessens your time on the water or could add extra $ charges to the unguided trip.

All participants must choose their boat types at booking time either  kayaks or canoe and remain with that choice throughout the paddle experiences. Sorry no exceptions. If no choice is made at booking time we will choose for you when we load up the boats/gear and no substitutions will be permitted after that time or at the last minute without incurring an outrageous additional fee.

You should bring: A dry bag for your stuff (seal able plastic or large zip-lock bags will do), optics, field guides, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, rain jackets (we will go rain or shine, remember it is a swamp) you need to bring your own rain gear, insect repellent, comfortable shoes, comfortable clothes, full water bottle, snack and/or gatorade + extra water & bandanna in warmer weather. A small simple first aid kit is a good idea to have along for the self guided river trip (your guide will have one for the swamp). Be prepared and in shape to get some exercise, 6-8 miles of paddling a day is nothing to sneeze at. Hot and cold times of year please check with us about some special instructions. Check our Tour Particulars for weather cancellation policy.

Timing Info: The busiest times at Okefenokee are usually the weekends or holidays, a Friday afternoon, Saturdays and a Sunday after 11AM or almost any time of year except for the slowest months can mean sharing the waterways with others. For those reasons and some other good ones, (like early bird catches the worm). It is important that we go early AM when there is less activity, because we will probably have a better shot at solitude and a higher probability of wildlife sightings along many sections of waterway.

This Package is not set up for a beginner paddler. It may be seriously cut short or could be canceled entirely without a refund if participants are not truthful of paddling experience and skill levels. We reserve the right to change locales, duration’s and to make any adjustments we feel necessary according to skill levels. A beginner paddler should look into our other Package #4 as a good way to get the skills and fundamentals necessary to do this package or other experienced paddler tours.

Please Note: This package might not be available during our busiest times of March 14th through April 28th. We strongly suggest you book this package 2-3 months ahead during the March 1 through May 15th Springtime period or try for another time. Order and timing of activities is subject to change and rearrangement because of weather factors and certain conditions.

Package info and discounts for more people with more cabins & boats:

To make this package most comfortable for more than two adult size people we suggest you book more than one package. Each package involves one cabin and will be limited to 4 people in a cabin per package. You will have to know an exact number of people participating to be able to book multiple packages.

We offer an extra $50 discount which we will apply to each package purchased after the first one, provided everyone participates together in the multiple packages and at least one adult (parent, guardian or responsible party) is present in each cabin accommodation.

Special considerations please note:

A package with 4 or less participants will always be in one cabin unless additional packages are purchased.

This package might not be available March 1st – May 15th because we book up our few available time slots and cabins fast at these times. Weekdays are your best bet.

Sometimes additions and for sure subtractions of participants in packages especially those wishing refunds for the changes, will not be possible after setting up package reservations especially in Spring, March – May. Please be sure before you book.

There are no refunds on multiple cabins package cancellations – this is usually very costly for us if we are expected to do a cancellation refund.  We will not do it. So again we stress – please be very sure before you book.

Read what a couple from the Northwest had to say, after they experienced this package -

“The Okefenokee Swamp and The Saint Mary’s River are incredible places to experience in a kayak or canoe. Coming from out of state and having watched way too many movies where alligators ate humans, Okefenokee Pastimes was exactly for us. It’s hard to say what was the nicest part of the experience: the mirror reflection off the black water, paddling into a nursery of baby alligators, seeing tons of Ibises bejewel the cypress trees or the quietness enabling anyone to hear the leaves drop onto the water. Okefenokee Pastimes is obviously a well-run business, but also a place where the owners care about their bit of trembling earth. If you’re really a nature lover, you won’t be disappointed with this Paddle Package.”
