Stargazing

Pastimes is excited to announce a new weekly event for our Guests. As many may know we are located in one of the darkest sky areas in the Southeast (no or little unnatural light pollution), we have decided that we would love to share one of the age old hobbies and offer an introduction to star gazing every Friday and Saturday night. With the dark skies in this beautiful part of GA it makes it possible, for all to gaze towards the stars and dream like so many other countless generations have done. We are working towards our own dark sky certification and will announce it when it happens. We will be accommodating those who are new to the hobby as well as amateur and professional star gazers. We will be supplying telescopes from Orion and be using their Dobsonian Sky Quest line 6″, 8″, 10″ 12″, or if you have your own please feel free to bring it. With these sizes we will be able to view the moon, planets, stars and deep space objects. We have designated a temporary area while the new area is being designed and built, let me tell you it is going to be an exciting area like no one else provides with a open 360 degree view of the horizon and a permanent mount tracking scope. Gazing times will be Friday and Sat nights from 9:00 to 10:30, once the new area comes online we will address times for optimal viewing as well as if demand requires a later viewing as well (for guests) and hosted private star gazings. There will be a minimal charge for maintenance, repairs and equipment of $5 for those choosing not to stay with us. We will also be doing special viewing nights to correspond with celestial events, as well as hosting any clubs who would like to use the facility, and stay and view packages for others (prices to be determined at a later date). You will be able to stay in a cabin, your rv or tent and use the facility, enjoy the peace and quiet here and our other facilities, view the stars at night, recreate during the day as well as visit the Natural wonder the Okefenokee NWR (swamp) and all the other areas in this beautiful place.
